Our HistoryIn 1989 Tayside Community Residential and Support Options formed in response to the closing of Ellenvale Nursing home a group of people in the community recognized a need to provide quality service to persons who were developmentally challenged.
The board of directors was formed and an executive director was hired. A contractor was hired to find a new home for four people and the first home was rented in June 1989 on the Christie Lake Road. In 1991, Tayside built it's first home at 58 South Street, designated as Brady House after the Brady family, and the individuals and staff moved into the house in the Fall of 1991. The office staff and executive director moved to a rented space in the Johnson-Cross Accounting firm building on Foster Street. In November 1992, Tayside built an eighteen unit townhouse complex which was a rent-geared-to-income development. In March 1993 a second house was built at 3 Argyle Street. This house was named after the Deakin family. The Town of Perth requested Tayside to operate the Child Care centre on Wilson St. E. When the child care at St. John's High School opened we moved our office into it's present location at the Wilson St. E. location in the junior child care centre. Davidson House, our third home opened in August 1999 . This house was retrofitted to meet the needs of the individuals who we care for and as well it was the first house located on the outskirts of Perth, not in the town. Davidson House was named after Donna Davidson, who has been a strong supporter and board member of Tayside since the beginning. In April 2005 Rimmer House, our fourth house was completed. Our executive director, Diane Rimmer retired in May and in her honour and to recognize her longstanding service to Tayside, the house was named after her. The Supported Independent Living program begun to address the needs of individuals living in the community who required assistance with daily living skills, while maintaining their independence.
