  • Counsellor I / Night Counsellor – Cameron House and Rimmer House

    COUNSELLOR 1/NIGHT COUNSELLOR – Cameron House and Rimmer House
    TEMPORARY, PART-TIME – 56 hours bi-weekly
    This position is expected to begin on or about September 30, 2018 and to end on or about the first week of April, 2019 with the possibility of being extended or shortened.

    Tayside Community Options is seeking a temporary, part-time Counsellor I/Night Counsellor at Cameron House and Rimmer House. We are a multi-service agency with one of our functions being a provider of support services to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum education & skill requirement: Post-secondary education in social services from a recognized Ontario College or equivalent field related experience is preferred.
    • Experience in Community Residential Services and Programming as related to intellectually delayed persons, with knowledge and experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis.
    • Pharmacology course from a recognized Ontario College or equivalent.
    • A mature and conscientious individual who is creative, flexible and interested in maximizing the integration of residents into the community.

    All Tayside Community Options employees are required to: train in lifting and transferring techniques, First Aid, CPR, CPI techniques, and other delegated acts pertinent to individual needs; assist the individuals in achieving their potential in activities of daily living; assist the Counselor II in the development and implementation of day services and community activities. Staff are expected to: establish a good rapport and communicate effectively with all individuals, other staff, families, parents and friends; always act as an advocate of the individuals; learn and follow the rules of the house and participate in staff meetings; keep abreast of trends in the field of intellectual disabilities and keep informed of the individuals’ intellectual needs. Under the supervision of the Counselor II and Team Leader: help to develop and implement Person Centered Plans (PCPs) in accordance with individual needs and personal outcomes; assist in facilitating leisure and recreational activities according to their wishes; keep abreast of, and up-to-date with, medical problems and their precautions and be able to deal with emergency situations; dispense medication as required; report clearly and concisely in all areas required; carry out all programs and procedures pertinent to the individual; ensure high health standards are maintained; assume any other duties as delegated by the Team Leader.

    You must have a valid driver’s license, possession of a vehicle for work and appropriate insurance.

    Tact, diplomacy and initiative suitable to deal with others in management positions, co-workers and volunteers are essential to ensure continuity and effective teamwork.

    Hourly Rate: per CUPE Collective Agreement (Union position)

  • Casual Staff for TayCare Children’s Centres

    Supply staff are required for our Child Care Centres in Perth. Our Child Care Programs provide care for children from 1.5 years to 12 years of age.

    Required Qualifications:

    • ECE and/or extensive experience in the field;
    • Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (if ECE);
    • A Police Vulnerable Sector Check from within the past 6 months;
    • Have or be willing to take CPR and First Aid;

  • Job Posting – Casual Residential Counsellors

    Casual work in five support homes for people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. As part of a team, provides supports through individuals’ Person Centred Plans designed to promote personal welfare, independence and inclusion. Must be willing and able to work days, evenings, nights, including weekends and holidays.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Community College diploma in social services from a recognized Ontario College of Applied Arts & Technology and/or experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities;
    • Community College course in pharmacology;
    • Have or be willing to take CPR/First Aid and CPI;
    • Valid driver’s license;
    • A current vulnerable sector screening criminal reference check.
