The Taycare Senior Children’s Centre is licensed under the Ontario Day Nurseries Act. The Senior Centre provides child care programs to coincide with the schedules of the local schools in Perth. A Ready2Learn program will be run during the 2013-2014 school year for junior and senior kindergarten children on the days they do not attend school. Before and after school care is provided to all age groups from kindergarten to 12 years old. Care is also for full days during school closures (i.e. Christmas break and professional development days), as well as a summer day camp for children 4 – 12.

Ratios

All qualified staff are registered members of the College of Early Childhood Educators. The staff to child ratio with our preschool children is 1-8, kindergarten children is 1-10 and school age children is 1-15.

Programming

Full day programming for preschoolers and kindergarten children follows a schedule which includes structured learning times throughout the day. Learning circles based on monthly themes may include stories, songs, art activities and games. The children engage in work jobs each day as well as hands-on activities to teach about shapes, numbers, letters, and concepts. Quiet time and free play are also a part of the children’s day; there is outdoor playtime for one hour in the morning and another hour in the afternoon.

School age children at the Centre before school are provided with an opportunity to engage in free play or take part in activities and crafts planned by staff. They are walked over to Queen Elizabeth School by staff each morning. School age children at the Centre after school are walked to the Centre from the school by staff and are offered a snack and additional free play outside (weather permitting) as well as the opportunity to participate in organized activities and crafts.

* TAYCARE SUMMER CAMP *

We have planned a fun-filled summer for your child at the TayCare Children’s Centre! Each week’s activities are centred around a theme, with sports, arts and crafts, as well as special field trips during July and August. Our hours of operation are 6:30 am to 6:00 pm; a hot lunch and two nutritious snacks are provided daily at no extra charge. Our programs are fully licensed with the Ministry of Education; all full-time staff are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators and have First Aid and CPR training. For more information or to register, please call 613-264-0953 ex. 103 or email childcare@tayside.ca. Snacks and Meals

The Senior Centre provides nutritious snacks for the after school program that meet with the Canada Food Guide recommendations. During full day programs for preschoolers a morning and afternoon snack are provided, as well as a hot lunch. Children attending the Ready2Learn program are provided with a morning snack, but are required to bring their own lunch. Only children in the Ready2Learn program or those with special diets are allowed to bring outside food into the Centre. Because some children at the Senior Children’s Centre have severe allergies, we ask that any outside food items be NUT FREE. If your child has specific dietary requirements, please discuss this with the Centre supervisor at the time of registration.

We also have a breakfast program for children who arrive at the Senior Children’s Centre before 8:00 am. The breakfast consists of toast or cereal with juice or milk for the low cost of 25 cents per day.

Outings

On occasion, staff will organize outings within the community, as well as field trips requiring bus transportation. Parents will be informed well in advance of any fields trips, and written parental/guardian consent is required.

Outdoors

Children are supervised in our fenced playground and staff to child ratios are met at all times. The play structures are inspected yearly by a certified inspector to ensure that we meet all of the CSA safety standards. In addition, the yard is inspected daily, monthly and seasonally by our staff.

Hours of Operation

The TayCare Senior Children’s Centre is open from 6:30 am until 6:00 pm Monday to Friday, with the exception of statutory holidays.

Fees and Subsidy

Fees are set each year by the Tayside Board of Directors. For information on daycare fees, please email childcare@tayside.ca or call (613)264-0953 ex. 103.

Fee subsidies are available to parents who qualify under a provincially regulated income test; eligibility is determined based on guidelines established by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Fee subsidy applications are administered by the County of Lanark; the department in charge of subsidy requests can be contacted at (613)267-4200, ex. 2304 or via email at ss@county.lanark.on.ca. Before applying for a subsidy, parents must find a licensed child care facility that best fits their needs.
